Dr. Jay Hertzog Comments on Alternative Pathways to Becoming a Teacher
I was recently asked was : “What alternative pathways are available to become a teacher in PA?”
Really, is this a question? We are currently furloughing teachers and now we want to provide alternative pathways? The medical profession is having shortages, what pathways have we developed to provide alternative approaches to becoming a physician? How about a lawyer? We have an abundance of lawyers, are we looking for alternative pathways to that profession? If someone wants to start a second career, fantastic…let them have a college advisor examine their transcripts, take the required entrance exam to the program, take the coursework for the program, do the field experiences and student teaching, and then take the content exam for certification.
